Situated in the very heart of Scotland’s National Book Town amidst the stunning rural landscape of the Lowlands The former Customs House and Bank, once home to an uncle of John Ruskin, is now home to more than 5 large rooms of books – it’s the bookshop where, as you browse, you step from the nineteenth century, in the form of the Italianate, high-ceilinged front section, back to the 1760s and the days of the Redcoats when the Customs House was built.
Now there are thousands of high quality, out-of-print, second-hand, and antiquarian books on all subjects and a room dedicated to sheet music.
We are a book-loving, family-run business, and we are keen to link readers with the titles they seek or may not have even thought of.
Find out more about us, the services we can offer, (including the buying of books), and Wigtown and its amazing literary festival on our new website.
We are currently in the middle of a number of developments and changes to The Oldbank Bookshop and we will keep you up to date on progress via our Facebook page. As we get our developments finished we will be adding more information and details on this website. So, as the saying goes….”Watch this space”.
